Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern

I am a firm believer that even in the toughest of circumstances it is possible for us to find a healthy outlet to process and channel emotions in a helpful manner, which far from adding to the hurt; can make us stronger, wiser, and more resilient.

When I started as a peer support specialist in 2011, I knew that I wanted to help others for a living. That is what motivated me to pursue a career in the helping professions and ultimately be able to obtain a Master’s degree in Rehabilitation Counseling. I first obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Kean University. A few years later, I graduated from Rutgers University the State University of New Jersey with a Master’s of Science in 2018.

I have also served in the U.S. Army National Guard. Such experience made me realize the great need for the human connection and support that there is out there; rather than isolating me psychologically and emotionally. I understood the meaning of connection and the importance of resilience in difficult times.

My approach is a client-centered with a strong emphasis in Motivational Interviewing techniques, and the use of Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Since most of my experience has been in the treatment of substance use disorders, my focus has been bio-psychosocial assessments, group therapy and relapse- prevention counseling. However, every person’s experience is different and every approach works differently. I believe that is equally important to make time to educate (Psycho-Ed) our clients and their families as much as we can. In cases of Parental Conflict, I offer coaching for highly contentious cases, from the perspective of my 10-year experience with Family Law and custody-related cases. I am working towards full certification in Family Mediation.

There are so many ways to connect with and uplift others, regardless of who they are or what they’ve done. I’m forever thankful to Our Lord for all the opportunities I’ve been given to serve others who may be in need of guidance and support.
